The shirt or red jacket [1] [2] was chosen to be the hallmark of Giuseppe Garibaldi and his volunteers since 1843, when the patriot 500 Italians gathered in Montevideo to defend the Republic of Uruguay by Argentine dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas, who wanted to conquer it.
Garibaldi, relying on little funding for his business, he found the red woolen cloth, usually used for coats of butchers to cover his troops.
